How to Pack and Care For Your Ears
By Kayla, Maker and founder, Ears of Joy. Written from the studio, by the person who makes them.
All of our items here are made by hand, constructed carefully to last. However, all things can be broken, so it is up to you to treat your items kindly.
Packing and storing your ears
We take pride in the quality of our ears, but when treated poorly, just like anything else, they can break. When packing or storing your ears, the key is to keep them on top of anything heavy. You never want them to get bent or crushed.
If packing a suitcase, I recommend wrapping your ears in clothing items to help protect them, and stacking them on top of your items, rather than under, where they might get damaged. Alternatively, you might consider packing them in a carry on or a personal item. This is my usual method, as I personally control how the vessel is handled on an airline. The strategy still remains the same, wrapping them gently and placing them at the top of your bag.
For storage, consider stacking multiple pairs of ears on top of each other in a safe place, or hammer a few nails in the wall to create your very own ear wall!
Cleaning without damage
For ears, always spot treat gently with a damp cloth or Tide pen as needed. Skip soaking or the washing machine, which is too rough to safely clean your ears.
For a custom jersey, machine wash inside out on cold. Always dry on a gentle cycle, or, better yet, allow to air dry. Vinyl can overheat and peel off if washed or dried with too much heat.
